Yes. Australian Paramedical College (APC) is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 32513), which means our nationally recognised qualifications are delivered under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). When you successfuly complete your course, your qualification is formally issued by APC and recorded through your Unique Student Identifier (USI) transcript as an official record of your Australian vocational education and training (VET) achievement. Our qualifications are recognised nationally by employers, industry, and other registered training providers across Australia.

The final cost depending on any Credit Transfer (CT) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) you’re eligible for. APC offers flexible payment options, including upfront payment and internal payment plans tailored to your circumstances. APC offers two main ways to fund your studies. Upfront payment, or an internal payment plan tailored to weekly or fortnightly instalments based on your circumstances. Your APC Course Advisor can confirm which option best suits your budget and timeline. 

The time required depends on your study pace, individual circumstances, and any Credit Transfer (CT) or Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The maximum duration to complete the course is 24 months, although most students aim to complete within 12–24 months. 

The HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care is offered by a number of Registered Training Organisations across Australia, including some TAFEs and private colleges like APC. While the qualification itself is nationally recognised and consistent regardless of provider, delivery mode, campus locations, industry placements, and course support can vary significantly. APC specialises specifically in pre-hospital and emergency healthcare training, with campuses in NSW, VIC, QLD, and WA, over 20 industry partners, and trainers who are practising or former paramedics and medics. 

APC runs regular intakes for the HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care throughout the year across our NSW, VIC, QLD, and WA campuses. Workshops run in small groups so you get direct hands-on time with trainers who are practising or former medics and paramedics. 

Graduates of this course will be well-placed to take on various professional roles across Australia and New Zealand in the pre-hospital healthcare industry, including First Responder, Event Medic, Ambulance Transport Attendant (ATA), Patient Transport Officer (PTO), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Medical Emergency Services Officer (MESO/ESO). 

No training provider can honestly guarantee employment, and we’d encourage caution with any that claims otherwise. What APC can offer is strong industry connections. We partner with over 20 established employers across Australia and New Zealand, and many students receive job offers during or immediately after their Clinical Placement, as employers use this time to assess candidates directly.

Diploma graduates typically move into roles such asFirst Responder, Event Medic, Ambulance Transport Attendant (ATA), Patient Transport Officer (PTO), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and Medical Emergency Services Officer (MESO/ESO).

Unlike single-employer training pathways, an APC Diploma isn’t tied to one organisation. Graduates work across 20+ industry partners, so earning potential isn’t capped by one employer’s pay structure.

No. The title of “Paramedic” is a protected professional title in Australia. Since 2018, to become a registered Paramedic in Australia, you must meet the registration requirements set by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), which generally includes completing an approved bachelor degree in paramedicine. Many students choose the Diploma as a pathway towards university because it helps develop relevant emergency healthcare knowledge, practical skills, and clinical experience. 

Yes. This is one of the most common reasons students choose APC. While the Diploma alone doesn’t make you a registered Paramedic, many universities offer VET entry pathways or credit for Diploma graduates, meaning your APC qualification can shorten or strengthen your path into a paramedicine degree. 

The Diploma is a nationally recognised vocational qualification that typically takes 1–2 years, combining practical training, clinical placement, and industry-focused learning. A Bachelor of Paramedicine is a university degree that typically takes 3 years and is designed to meet AHPRA registration requirements. Many students complete the Diploma first to gain a nationally recognised qualification and enter the workforce sooner, while some later progress to a Bachelor with credit. 

Yes. Because APC graduates work across multiple industry partners rather than one employer, flexibility depends on which organisation and role you take on, from casual event medic shifts to full-time patient transport or industrial medic positions. This gives you more control over your work-life balance than a single-employer pathway. 

Australia’s demand for qualified emergency health professionals is growing, driven by an ageing population, expanding event medical services, and gaps in regional and remote healthcare access. 

APC partners with 20+ organisations across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, including St John, AirMed & GroundMed, Medical Edge, and Fire & Safety Australia. These partnerships provide Clinical Placement opportunities and, in many cases, direct pathways to employment.

Yes. The HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care is a nationally recognised qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework, valid Australia-wide regardless of which APC campus (NSW, VIC, QLD, or WA) you attend your Clinical Workshops at. 

Some providers train you for a role within their own organisation specifically. APC’s Diploma is employer-independent. You graduate with a nationally recognised qualification usable across 20+ partner organisations and the wider industry, not tied to one company’s hiring pipeline. 

Yes. The Diploma is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing many students to balance employment, family, and other commitments. The online learning structure combined with scheduled practical workshops and placement requirements allows students to plan their study around their existing lifestyle. 

At Australian Paramedical College, you learn from experienced emergency healthcare professionals. Many of our trainers are registered Paramedics with extensive frontline experience across ambulance services, emergency response, patient care, and pre-hospital healthcare. 

The Diploma combines flexible online learning with practical training and clinical placement. Students complete theory through APC’s online learning platform, while also attending two 5-day intensive clinical workshops and completing 160 hours of supervised clinical placement. 

Yes. Clinical placement is an important component of the Diploma and allows students to apply their learning in real healthcare environments under appropriate supervision. APC works with a network of placement providers across Australia and New Zealand to help facilitate placement opportunities. 

The Diploma of Paramedical Science has been superseded by the HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care, which reflects updated industry skills, technology, and best practice in pre-hospital emergency care. If you’re researching older course names or previous qualification codes, HLT51020 is the current, nationally recognised version and the one APC now delivers. Students who began under the previous qualification can speak with an APC Course Advisor about their options for transitioning or gaining credit. 

Yes. Applicants must confirm they’re fit to study and able to perform required physical tasks, including lifting up to 25kg, bending, twisting, and uninterrupted CPR for up to 15 minutes, via a medical declaration. 

Yes. Training includes managing high-pressure and emotionally difficult scenarios, and ongoing support is available from trainers and peers throughout the course, not just during scheduled workshop hours. 

Since 2011, Australian Paramedical College has specialised in pre-hospital and emergency healthcare education. Unlike generalist training providers, APC focuses specifically on emergency healthcare pathways, delivered by experienced healthcare professionals including registered Paramedics with frontline experience, across campuses in NSW, VIC, QLD, and WA.

APC provides a pathway into emergency healthcare and further study; however, becoming a registered paramedic in Australia requires meeting registration requirements set by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).  

Since Paramedic registration was introduced in Australia in 2018, the title “Paramedic” has become a protected professional title, and new applicants generally need to complete an approved pathway, typically including an accredited bachelor degree in paramedicine.  Many students choose APC as a foundational and alternative pathway because our qualifications help develop relevant emergency healthcare knowledge, practical skills, and industry experience, often resulting in employment in the sector, before progressing to further study.  

The HLT51020 Diploma of Emergency Health Care is a nationally recognised qualification designed for people wanting to develop knowledge and practical skills in pre-hospital emergency healthcare. The course combines theoretical learning with practical training and supervised clinical placement to prepare graduates for a range of emergency healthcare and patient-focused roles, while also providing a strong foundation for further education and career development. 

No. An ATAR is not required to enrol in the Diploma of Emergency Healthcare. The course is suitable for students from a range of backgrounds, including school leavers, career changers, and people already working in healthcare who are looking to expand their skills. APC qualifications are designed to prepare students for roles across the emergency healthcare sector, including patient transport, first response and event medical, industrial and mining emergency response, and other patient-facing healthcare environments.  Career opportunities depend on the qualification completed, your experience, and employer requirements. Many students choose APC as their first step into emergency healthcare, while others use their qualification to progress their existing healthcare career, or continue to further study at University.

Yes. While APC offers flexible learning, our qualifications are designed around real emergency healthcare environments and include practical training and assessment. Students develop hands-on skills through practical workshops, simulation, and supervised clinical placement, allowing them to apply their knowledge in realistic emergency healthcare settings.
