APC Partners with Wagga Wagga First Aid Training

Published on 14 August, 2023.

Australian Paramedical College (APC) is excited to announce its latest Clinical Placement and Employment Industry Partner, Wagga Wagga First Aid Training.

Based in NSW, Wagga Wagga First Aid Training proudly identifies as an Indigenous business, registered with the Indigenous Chamber of Commerce NSW and Supply Nation. They commit to providing quality training, medical support, and patient transport services.

This collaboration is especially timely for APC as we witness NSW become our largest state for student enrolments! Furthermore, we’re consistently seeking avenues to aid our students, not only throughout their educational journey, but beyond graduation too. This partnership supports this effort where are students can enjoy the possibility of employment opportunities following their training.

What does this mean for our APC students?

APC’s HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care (formerly known as Paramedical Science) and HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care require students to complete Clinical Placement as part of their studies. This experience is priceless for our students, enabling them to engage with real-life scenarios and enhancing their preparedness for post-graduation.

Many students have had the privilege of conducting their Clinical Placement hours with Wagga Wagga First Aid Training and have already shown significant growth. Rory McKenzie, owner and registered nurse himself, has been directly overseeing our students during their Clinical Placement. He expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, stating,

“I’m very excited to partner with APC, students who have already worked with us have been very supported by our experienced staff and our values align well.

What does this mean for our graduates?

Being a Clinical Placement Industry and Employment too, students can be offered positions within the company if vacancies arise. During Clinical Placement, we encourage students to actively demonstrate their skills and leave a lasting impression for later employment. We’ve found a number of our students are new to healthcare and not already working within the industry. Creating partnerships like these allow students to not feel as overwhelming at the prospect of working in a new industry.

APC’s Director of Education, Dr Simon Sawyer, shared, “Our dedication to our students extends beyond delivering exceptional education; we’re also committed to facilitating opportunities beyond graduation for our students. Partnering with Wagga Wagga First Aid Training enables us to keep taking that direction.”

Who are Wagga Wagga First Aid Training?

Medically trained himself, Rory McKenzie is a former combat medic in the ADF with over 10 years of experience in the first aid industry in several organisations ranging from NSW State Emergency Service, NSW Ambulance and St John Ambulance NSW. This experience within the sector makes him well-equipped to take on APC’s Cert IV and Diploma students.

APC students can participate in events like pro wrestling, national mountain biking, and more, attending low to high acuity shifts. This diverse experience allows them to swiftly complete Clinical Placement and hone their skill sets.

APC partnering with Wagga Wagga First Aid Training showcases the joint effort to excel in training our next generation of healthcare professionals.
