APC Students Speak – Meet Florence Simpson Studying the Cert IV in Health Care
Florence, who lives in Adelaide, is another shining example of how so many more younger people are taking the time to invest in their future through training.
Florence tells us she left school in Year 11 without having any idea of what she would like to do for a career.
She reveals how her passion for watching Paramedics do an amazing job, led her to start a career through Australian Paramedical College.
Florence has huge aspirations to further her studies and intends to study the Bachelor of Paramedical Science at uni and become a registered Ambulance Paramedic.
“My name is Florence, I’m from Adelaide (South Australia) and I’m currently studying the Certificate IV in Health Care and also the Diploma of Paramedical Science.” (Superseded by the Diploma of Emergency Health Care)
“I actually dropped out mid-Year 11 not knowing what I wanted to do, or any path I wanted to take, and then I saw paramedics.”
“Every time I saw an ambulance go by, I’d be like, Oh, I wish I was doing that. Like I really had that passion to do it, and then I came across the Australian Paramedical College and I just really felt this is a way I can actually get into doing this.”
“Workshop one has been amazing. It’s been so good to be able to put all the theory into action and to see how I go with all the different things that I’ve been learning over the past year or so.”
“Studying by yourself sometimes, it’s a bit scary, but just keep going over stuff. Call the trainers, they’re always there whenever you need them to email or anything like that and they’ll help you get through it easily.”
“So, my advice is basically just coming into the workshop with an open mind, just wanting to learn, wanting to learn new things, and put all of what you’ve learnt into action.”
“Once I’ve finished this course, I obviously want to go do my Bachelor of Paramedical Science, but I’d also love to volunteer with St John or something like that. Go for it, do it. It will be the best experience of your life.”
