Bachelor of Paramedic Science degree

If you are looking for a career in a State Ambulance Service as a Paramedic, you will require a Bachelor of Paramedic Science degree.

The Australian Paramedical College does not offer Bachelor of Paramedic Science degree. However, we do provide a pathway into university through our nationally recognised diploma qualification. If you have studied with APC you may be eligible to apply for credit towards a Bachelor degree through ‘RPL’ (Recognition of prior learning). Education pathways in Australia provide progression from diploma to degree. Not all universities follow this protocol, therefore it pays to enquire with your chosen university before proceeding.

Not ready for University just yet?

If university is not an option at the moment, there are alternative pathways to achieving your dream of working in emergency health care. The HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care is proving to be one of the most popular pathways into the sector. Some of the reasons you may decide to take this path are:

  • You have a low OP/ATAR and don’t meet university entry requirements.
  • You never finished year 12.
  • You’re looking at university, but would like to gain a nationally recognised qualification first, get some experience, then look to further your education.
  • You want to begin working in the industry sooner.
  • You want more flexibility to fit study around your current work/family commitments.

The degree structure.

A typical Bachelor of Paramedic Science degree is comprised of 24 subjects. Typically taking 3 years full-time study to complete. If you are eligible for RPL (EG. Have completed one of our courses), this estimate should decrease.

The total cost of the Bachelor degree (2016) is around $60,000+(*subject to change). It’s possible to defer paying for the degree by using a HECS-HELP loan, which is repaid through the ATO once your income reaches a certain threshold.

*Figures quoted may not be correct at the time of publishing. The Australian Paramedical College strongly suggests you carry additional research to verify these amounts as every university has its own fee structure.
