Aspiring Remote and Adventure & Expedition Medics and more in Tasmania – Australian Paramedical College (APC) is proud to shares its latest Industry Partnership with Safety and First Aid Education Tasmania (S.A.F.E)
This partnership is expected to offer APC’s students and graduates of the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care and HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care the chance of not only clinical placement throughout the state but additionally employment as a First Responder or Emergency Medical Technician, all the way up to a Nurse or Paramedic once a graduate of the relevant bachelors, thanks to APC’s Diploma-to-Bachelor pathway.
S.A.F.E provide training, event medical support and patient transport services throughout the state of Tasmania. Drawing on over 150 years of emergency service experience across ambulance, policing and fire & rescue, S.A.F.E offers APC students the chance to complete their placement alongside their growing team of healthcare professionals.
S.A.F.E may be best known for the event medical support they provide, currently servicing concerts, film and television, sporting events, motorsports, survival courses and more. A point of difference in S.A.F.E is their offerings in the more remote and secluded locations. Where graduates wish to work in positions such as remote or adventure and expedition medics, S.A.F.E’s Life Support & Emergency Coordinator and Director, Hamish McGovern happily will provide guidance.
Registered Nurse and Paramedic since 2018, Hamish and his wife, Anna, a Registered Nurse herself since 1997 first started S.A.F.E to not only support their local communities and businesses in medical support and training, but also fellow aspiring healthcare professionals across Tasmania in reaching their profession dreams.
Career deveopment within the company is widely supported, having had a number of employees complete university studies whilst employed before stepping into postions such as Nurses and Paramedics. Speaking to Hamish McGovern, Clinical Nurse Educator, he shared, ‘As an educator of over 30 years experience we are excited to continue to develop the next generations of healthcare professionals…Upon completion of student posting there may be opportunities to continue with ongoing work within the organisation, working to set protocols and becoming training officers themselves. Many of our employees go on to work in state ambulance services and overseas in the UK and USA.‘

Clinical placement is essential to a HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care and/or HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care course. Across 160 (Diploma) or 80 (Certificate IV) hours, students conduct their placement within a relevant pre/out-of-hospital environment alongside qualified supervisors.
Covering high-scale Tasmanian events such as the Tasmanian Gravity Enduro Series, BMX Club International Triathlon, Equestrian Tasmania and more, S.A.F.E provides students with much-needed placement hours and experience throughout, often attending to and treating high-acuity patients. This allows APC to feel trusted in the support and guidance provided to students throughout placement will be ever-lasting to their experience in the industry.

After completing clinical placement, students are invited to apply for any open positions, submitting their resume, cover letter, and APC qualification.
