Paramedical Diploma Student Nathan Seidel, is currently working as a Medical Emergency Services Officer (ESO) in the Western Australia mining sector and studying the HLT51015 – Diploma of Paramedical Science at APC at the same time.
An ESO is an emergency response/medically trained professional who can work across many industries such as mining, defence, construction, offshore oil and gas, aviation and many other sectors in the resource industry. ESO’s are multi-skilled and are proficient in security, fire, control of hazardous materials, rescue (vertical as well as confined space) and of course emergency medical procedures.
Nathan tells us his reasons for studying the Diploma of Paramedical Science and how he intends to use his new qualification to further his paramedical career.
“I’m currently employed as a Medical Emergency Services Officer in mining over in Western Australia. FIFO work gives you that opportunity to have that week off so you have that time to study.
“Studying with Australian Paramedic College whilst at work, like being in that role already, is very beneficial.
I may be studying a chapter on chest pain or cardiovascular issues and I’ll have a patient the next day with that so it’s fresh on the brain. It’s extremely relevant for the role that I’m in.
I did attempt the Diploma previously [with another provider], but found that course not to be as effective as the one offered at the Australian Paramedic College.
“I’d recommend APC as a study provider because of the amount of support you have from the instructors, the content that’s covered in the course, and the education and the knowledge you have at the end of the course.
After I finish the Diploma I’m going to look at going to the UK and work on road (as a registered Paramedic), hopefully with the NHS (National health Service), to get some more experience and further that experience for future career goals”, said Nathan.

Nathan is a fine example of how it’s possible continue to working and take advantage of online training via the APC app, as well as being available on a tablet, laptop and desktop computer.
Although Nathan works over 4000km away from his trainers and clinical instructors, studying online meant zero barriers to the continuance of his paramedical education.
