Of Australian Paramedical College’s (APC) core courses, Clinical Placement takes place in the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care and HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care.
Placement is crucial to a student’s clinical growth, exposing them to challenging environments beyond the controlled setting of a Clinical Workshop, whether at a sporting event, music festival or even mine site.

APC has 15+ Industry Partners to apply for or choose to conduct your placement via your preferred provider.
Clinical Placement is required to be completed within a relevant pre/out-of-hospital environment, meaning that you have a range of options to apply for.
APC offers three core courses which are run over a 12-24 month timeframe. These are the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care, HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care and HLT31120 – Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport.
Each has differing career pathways, so speaking to an APC Course Advisor to match your career aspirations with the right course is imperative to your success at APC.
Once confirmed, you’re ready to enrol into our next intake.

Meet Ashleigh, an APC student who studied the HLT51015 – Diploma of Paramedical Science (since superseded by the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care).
Ashleigh signed up for APC due to the convenience it offered her, as opposed to studying a bachelor degree at university. It was self-paced and allowed her to continue working full-time in a job that she loved.
Having already completed Clinical Placement before attending her Clinical Workshop 2, she reflects on her time with SA Ambulance, sharing, “You really get the opportunity to put everything that you have learned into practice“.
Students have the luxury of choice whilst enrolled at APC, and that flows through into their Clinical Placement.
You can choose to complete your Clinical Placement through APC’s Industry Partners and current recruiters (listed on your student portal once enrolled), but you also have the option to source another placement provider yourself should you wish for a different opportunity.
If you choose to enroll into APC’s HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care, you’ll be required to complete 160 hours of placement, broken down into 40 and 120-hour blocks.
For those enrolled into the HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care, 80 hours are required in the one block.
The HLT31120 – Certificate III in Non-Emergency Patient Transport does not require Clinical Placement.
APC is more than happy to discuss pathways for students to take to achieve RPL or CT’s on their course. You can learn more about these here.
Please note that no applications can be provided, or assessed for Clinical Placement until you have attended, and been deemed satisfactory at the relevant Clinical Workshop/s.
Students must be assessed by an APC Trainer and Assessor before commencing Clinical Placement, meaning you are unable to complete your placement beforehand.
This is to ensure that you are prepared and ready to take on treating patients.
