Patient Transport Student Interview – Donella Faulks
An interview with Patient Transport student Donella Faulks.
A career helping sick and injured people can be so rewarding; just ask Donella Faulks.
Take Donella for instance, she has a passion for helping others and knew she needed to up-skill and keep on educating herself. We believe (and so does Donella), that age is no barrier when it comes to self-improvement and finding that perfect career you’ve always wanted.
If you really want to steer your life in the direction that brings joy and satisfaction, then it’s up to you to make it happen. Donella is a wonderful reminder of how we all have choices; and you’re never too old to get started doing what you love!
“I’m Donella and I’m currently studying the Patient Transport Officers Certificate 3.” (HLT31120 – Certificate III in Non-emergency Patient Transport).
“I’m from Victoria. I’ve worked for The Royal Flying Doctors for about eight years now in a few different roles. Currently [on the phone] as a non-emergency dispatcher.”
“It’s grown exponentially. Our fleet now, gosh, probably has 140-odd vehicles. So we’ve just got a lot more non-emergency work in Victoria. And yeah, just thought I’d like to go on the other side of the dispatch and hop in the vehicles.”
“I think you’re never too old to study. And yeah, I think I just got to a point, I just needed a little bit something else in life. The workshops have been great. We’ve met lots of people, put our theory to practice, learn lots of skills, lots of new equipment. ”
“They’ve got great funding support for you. Great support from the teachers. You’re not bombarded with units. You’re given them as you go. Anything that you’re not sure of, you can always ring them up or emails, and they respond really quickly.”
“Yeah, there’s just really good support I think. And having these workshops as well.”
“There’s no intimidation, It’s a really good learning environment.”
