FAQ – I have finished school, what course options are there?

School leavers paramedic course.

At the college, we receive a lot of enquiries from school leavers who are thinking of following a career pathway to become a Paramedic.

When school has ended and it’s time to seriously think of the future of work, here’s a couple of options.

If your ATAR or OP score is good enough, the best school leavers paramedic course option would be to apply to a university and study the Bachelor of Paramedic Science full time for around 3 years.

or…

Enrol in a vocational training course (HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care) to prepare you for entry into university to complete the Bachelor degree. This is essential if your goal is to work as a registered Ambulance Paramedic and be employed by a State Ambulance Service. These Paramedics are the ones we see driving the ambulances and attending to all sorts of emergencies.

If you’re not ready to jump straight into university, then the HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care is a good choice, because this qualification will prepare you for university studies as well as provide you with an income as you work through the training course.
