Diploma of Paramedical Science Clinical Workshop

An interview with APC student Trudy Cooper

Meet Trudy Cooper, A diploma of Paramedical Science student at the Australian Paramedical College.

I feel very fortunate to have been able to study with APC.

As a student of paramedicine studies and an active member of NSW SES, Trudy reveals some home truths about her small community and why she feels being equipped to handle a medical emergency is so important.

“My dad always said to me, knowledge is no burden to carry”.

“Hi, I’m Trudy. I’m doing the Diploma of Paramedical Science at APC and I come from Deepwater in New South Wales.

I have been doing some emergency services work with the State Emergency Service of New South Wales.

Because of our small community, we have a volunteer ambulance first response group who are all volunteers. New South Wales ambulance provide us with a basic level of training to support our community first response pre-hospital role, because we have a delay for an ambulance to arrive where we are, because we’re isolated.

Be able to support someone, guide someone, save someone’s life

My dad’s always said to me, “Knowledge is no burden to carry,” and I’ve come across a few situations in my volunteering role where I went, “Oh man, if only I could do more, if only I knew more to be able to support someone, guide someone, save someone’s life.”

Because of our location, we are isolated.

Studying online, and having the ability just to come down for two separate weeks of intensive hands-on training, that sort of suited our lifestyle.

I feel very fortunate to have been able to study with APC. The staff support, like the student support are amazing. They never make you feel inadequate on the phone, always there to help, always there to prompt or provide whatever you need.

Studying online at home’s been quite beneficial.

Develop confidence in your own ability

For me, the workshops here and the hands-on experience here just develops confidence in your own ability.

I’m not an academic. I’m a hands on person. And to get the quantity of hands on that you get in the workshops is priceless.”, said Trudy.

APC feel privileged to assist student’s such as Trudy, to reach their goals of working in this incredible industry.
