FAQ – How long does it take to complete the Certificate IV and Diploma?

Tthe Certificate IV in Health Care could be completed within 12-18 months.

The HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care (formerly known as the Diploma of Paramedical Science) can be completed in 18 -24 months.

The point to remember here is that everyone is different, and it all depends on your circumstances and how much time you can devote to your studies. The online aspect of the course gives you the greatest control over how fast you work through the study materials. You have the choice to complete the training as fast – or slow as you want.

APC students studying the Certificate IV and/or Diploma follow a study pattern of theory > clinical workshop 1 > clinical placement in the community (work experience) > theory > attend clinical workshop 2 (diploma only) > clinical placement 2 (diploma only) > theory > graduation.

Certificate III students studying Non-Emergency Patent Transport study pattern is, online theory > workshop > theory > graduation. There is no requirement to complete clinical placement.

Choose from these medic/first responder qualifications

• HLT41120 – Certificate IV in Health Care (formerly known as HLT41115 – Certificate IV in Health Care).
  12-18 months course. Graduate as a Basic Life Support Medic. Jobs in the private sector as an Ambulance Officer, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Patient Transport Officer.
• HLT51020 – Diploma of Emergency Health Care (formerly known as HLT51015 – Diploma of Paramedical Science).
  18-24 month completion time frame. Graduate as a Basic Life Support medic. Jobs in mining*, oil & gas*, construction, manufacturing, hospitality, security and industrial*. Emergency response support at airports, transportation hubs, maritime industry, merchant navy etc. *Additional training is required to be eligible for some of these roles. Completion of the diploma can also provide entry pathways into university to study a Bachelor of Paramedic Science.
