In this interview preview, former APC Senior Lecturer and now lecturing at Charles Sturt University in Port Macquarie, NSW – Sam Willis has an inspiring message for those who might feel they don’t have what it takes to chase their career dreams of a fulfilling career in emergency health care.
Sam says, “One of the things I like to say to students, one of the messages I like to get across is that it doesn’t really matter which background you come from, you can absolutely achieve becoming a paramedic if that’s what you want to achieve. So, the reason I went to college to get the qualifications was not through my own choice, it was because I didn’t get the grades I needed at school which just goes to show that it doesn’t matter about prior background, it doesn’t matter about prior learning, it doesn’t matter about prior experience.”
‘If you want to be a paramedic badly enough, you can achieve it but you do have to be willing to put in the time and the commitment and the sacrifice to be able to achieve those earlier qualifications which will get you to where you need to be.”
Sound words of advice from Sam.
